Unorthodox
Tefillin Bank and Rabbi Berl,
My life has changed since I started putting on Tefillin every weekday morning. Thank you for giving me this gift and for teaching me how to perform this mitzvah. I read that "binding" myself with Tefillin also "binds" me to Torah and to Jewish tradition.
I grew up in Reformed household. I had a Reformed Bar Mitzvah. My routine did not include donning Tefillin. To me, that was "something Orthodox Jews do". Somehow, I thought "since I'm not Orthodox, that doesn't include me". I was wrong. Labels can be misleading. I don't know how to classify myself anymore "Orthodox, Reform, Conservative", and I'm not sure that I want to.
I knew about it--I had seen other Jews wrap. But honestly, I did not have the desire to do the same. You let me know how important it is. Until now, I never had this opportunity to better myself.
Thanks for the foundation. I am starting to get it.
Respectfully,
Mike D.
