I am a chiropractor in Southern California. I was president of the tallis and Tefillin club after my bar mitzvah for three years. It was more of a social group-instead of T & T (talis and Tefillin) we called it the B & B (breakfast and bowling) club. I never understood the real meaning of Tefillin, from that experience.
So here I am, twenty-six years later, at 42 years old, haven't done Tefillin since I was 16 (give or take a couple times). I joined Chabad of Mission Viejo without knowing what I was getting myself into. I am relearning my Judaism from a meaningful perspective rather than a "just do it because" perspective. Getting this pair of Tefillin has made me recommit my dedication to the mitzvah of Tefillin, and ultimately my connection to G-d and the Jewish people. This "easy" mitzvah is a reminder for me each and every day of where I came from and to where I am going.
I recommend this mitzvah to anyone who is looking for an easy commitment and connection to their roots. I would like to thank the wonderful sponsors for helping Jews around the world connect to each other.
